Entry via Xbox friend
Join a Minecraft server on Nintendo Switch
The Switch is the console where the DNS method disappoints the most. With Huby there is no network setting at all: a Microsoft account, a friend, a world to join. It works on Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED.
Nintendo SwitchAbout 5 minutes
Before you start
- Minecraft (the current edition, not the old “Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition”), up to date.
- A Nintendo Switch Online subscription: Minecraft requires it for online play, and Huby is an online game.
- A free Microsoft account, signed in within the game.
The steps
- Step 1
Sign in with a Microsoft account
In the game menu : Home screenSign in
On Minecraft's home screen, choose Sign in. The game shows a code and a web address to open on a phone or computer: enter the code and confirm with your Microsoft account. The Switch remembers it afterwards.
- Step 2
Add HubyOnMC as a friend
In the game menu : PlayFriendsAdd Friend
Play, Friends tab, Add Friend. Type HubyOnMC as one word and send the request. It is accepted automatically, without a human having to be online.
HubyOnMC - Step 3
Join the Huby world
In the game menu : PlayFriendsJoinable Friends
In the Friends tab, under Joinable Friends, HubyOnMC offers a world named Huby. Select it and confirm. It loads like an ordinary world; a menu then appears.
- Step 4
Pick your server
Huby's menu lists the featured servers, then the well-known public servers, then your own. Pick one, and the Switch connects to it. Add Server saves an address and a port, kept with your account.
Why not the DNS method?
On Switch, changing the DNS is done in the console’s network settings, and it has to be redone for every Wi-Fi network. The setting affects every game and the eShop, not just Minecraft. And sometimes it simply isn’t picked up. Huby changes nothing: you join a friend’s world, exactly like a game with mates, and that world transfers you to the server you chose. The mechanism is explained in join a Minecraft server on console without changing the DNS.
Something not working?
The game doesn’t offer “Sign in”
You have the old “Nintendo Switch Edition”. Since 2018 it has been replaced free of charge by the current edition: search for “Minecraft” in the Nintendo eShop and install the version that shows the Marketplace tab.
Multiplayer is unavailable
Minecraft needs a Nintendo Switch Online subscription for any online play. Check that it is active on the Nintendo account that launches the game, then run a connection test in the console settings.
The friend request stays pending
It is usually accepted in under a minute. Relaunch the game to refresh the Friends tab. Nothing after ten minutes? Tell us on Discord.
Joinable Friends is empty
The list does not refresh on its own: leave the Friends tab and come back, or relaunch the game. If HubyOnMC is your friend but never joinable, the hub is probably down for maintenance; Discord announces it.
Disconnected on arrival at the server
The destination server is refusing: full, updating, or closed to Bedrock players. Go back to Huby and try another server. For Java servers running through Geyser, see the servers page.
Next time
Nothing to redo: HubyOnMC stays in your friends and their Huby world stays joinable. Your server list is kept with your Microsoft account; you find it again on another console or on your phone.
What next?
A question, a blocker, a server to suggest? That is what the Discord is for, and the FAQ already answers the most common questions.
