About Huby

Why Huby exists

Because a player on PS5, PS4, Xbox or Switch has no “Add server” button in Minecraft, and the only known recipe, changing the console’s DNS, breaks far too often. Huby takes another door, an official one that has always been open: joining a friend’s world. You add an Xbox friend, you join them, you pick your server. Nothing to set up, nothing to install, nothing to pay.

How it works, technically

Huby assembles two open-source projects, without hiding them:

• BedrockConnect provides the menu world: the server list, adding your own servers, and transferring the player to the chosen server.
• MCXboxBroadcast runs the Xbox account HubyOnMC: it accepts friend requests and presents Huby’s world as a joinable game.

Both are published under the GPL licence; so is Huby. The whole thing runs on a single server, in containers, with a deliberately small configuration: one file for the featured servers, one for the menu texts, one for the website. What Huby keeps about you fits in two lines: your Xbox identifier and the list of servers you added. The details are on the privacy page.

What Huby is not

Huby is not a game server: you build nothing there, you pick a destination. Huby is not a company: no paid tier, no advertising, no e-mail collection. And Huby is not a Minecraft product: it is neither approved by nor associated with Mojang or Microsoft. Console names belong to their manufacturers.

Who is behind it

A player who was tired of watching friends on console give up after three attempts at a DNS setting. The project is small and will stay that way: a hub, honest guides, a Discord to help each other. The featured servers are picked by hand, starting with SileneMC.

Where the project stands

Huby is in preparation: the site and the guides are here, the hub is running, and entry from consoles is being verified. As long as it is not verified, we say so; opening day is announced on Discord, to the first members. A question, a server to suggest, an idea? That is where it happens too.
