SileneMC on console: Java, Bedrock and Geyser

SileneMC is a Java server. How a PS5, an Xbox or a Switch gets in thanks to Geyser, what changes in game, and where access from Huby stands today.

By the Huby team

SileneMC is a Minecraft server whose core runs on Java Edition. A PS5, an Xbox or a Switch plays Bedrock Edition. The two don’t speak the same language, and yet SileneMC is the first server featured in Huby. Here is how that is possible, what it changes once in game, and, in all honesty, where access from a console stands at the time of writing.

Two editions, two networks

Minecraft comes in two editions that never meet. Java Edition, the original, runs on PC and Mac; its servers are written in Java, and that is where most of the “historic” servers and their plugins live. Bedrock Edition runs on console, phone, tablet and Windows; it is the one that lets a Switch and an iPhone play together.

A Java server does not understand a Bedrock player: the network packets, the block identifiers, the way of connecting, everything differs. Without help, SileneMC is invisible from a console, and no hub would change that.

Geyser: the bridge

Geyser is an open-source project that sits in front of a Java server and speaks Bedrock to the players arriving from that side. It translates live, in both directions: what the console sends is converted for the Java server, what the server sends back is converted for the console. To the server, the console player is a player almost like any other; to the console, SileneMC looks like a Bedrock server.

Geyser often comes with Floodgate, which lets Bedrock players in without owning a Java account: their Microsoft account is enough, and their name is prefixed with a dot or a prefix chosen by the server. This pair is what opens SileneMC’s Bedrock door, on its Bedrock address and port, the ones Huby knows.

What changes in game

Not much, for the most part: the world, the players, the commands, the economy, all of it is the Java server’s. A few differences come from the edition: combat doesn’t have quite the same rhythm on Bedrock, some blocks or items added by plugins may display differently, and a Java resource pack is not always translated. Server teams adjust that as feedback comes in; console players are rarely left behind.

Where access from Huby stands

This is the point to state clearly. Huby lists SileneMC and knows how to transfer a player there. But at the time of writing, a Bedrock player’s arrival on SileneMC is still being verified: the connection has sometimes been cut at the door, on the server’s side. Until that is sorted, the guide remains valid for every other server, and the servers page and Discord will carry the current status. We prefer an honest “not yet” to a promise.

How to join SileneMC with Huby

On console, it is Huby’s usual route: add HubyOnMC as a friend, join their world, and pick SileneMC from the menu. The per-machine guides detail every screen: PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch. On phone and Windows, you can also add SileneMC directly to the game with the Bedrock address and port shown on the servers page.

And if you run a Java server and want to open it to consoles: install Geyser and Floodgate, open a Bedrock port, then suggest your server on Discord. That is all Huby asks.
